The main title alludes to the film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (in China as神奇動(dòng)物在哪里), but that is fantasy. This is a real story about recent (unpublished) discoveries in Thai waters. Thailand is situated in the Indo-Pacific transition zone. The west coast borders the Andaman marine province (Western Indo-Pacific biogeographic realm) and the east coast borders the Sunda Shelf province (Central Indo-Pacific realm). More than 330 macroalgal species have been reported from Thai waters, but similarity to the seaweed floras of neighboring countries is lower than expected. The reason may be that taxonomists in different countries have used different names for the same species. With the advent of molecular techniques, it was revealed that seaweed diversity has been underestimated. Since 2018 Stefano Draisma has been visiting both coasts in search of seaweeds. Several recent discoveries will be presented through anecdotes. We still live in the Age of Discoveries when it comes to seaweed diversity and the horizon is not yet in sight.

Stefano G.A. Draisma，國(guó)際知名的海藻生物學(xué)家，荷蘭萊頓大學(xué)博士，先后在魯汶大學(xué)、萊頓大學(xué)、格羅寧根大學(xué)、神戶(hù)大學(xué)和馬來(lái)西亞大學(xué)從事研究工作，目前為泰國(guó)宋卡王子大學(xué)生物多樣性卓越研究中心任職，主要從事海藻多樣性進(jìn)化和生物地理學(xué)研究，發(fā)表學(xué)術(shù)論文近100篇，多個(gè)國(guó)際知名藻類(lèi)學(xué)期刊的編輯。
